I’ve been asked to provide book club questions for my books. I’m starting with The A’lle Murders (formerly titled Backli’s Ford):

Book Club Questions

1. What was your initial reaction to The A’lle Murders? Did it hook you immediately, or take some time to get into?

2. What did you like best about The A’lle Murders?

3. What did you like least?

4.The A’lle Murders does not mention indigenous people at all. What are possible reasons for this?

5. History often leaves out the prejudices and racism that existed between colonists and indigenous people and between Francophone and Anglophone. Does The A’lle Murders address these prejudices? If so, how?

6. Do you think the story was plot-based or character driven?

7. What did you think of Constance? Of Desautel?

8. How did Constance change throughout the story? How did Desautel change? Did your opinion of them change?

9. What part of the book stuck out the most for you? Why?

10. Was the setting important? Could the story have taken place anywhere?

11. The author has made her A’lle people very close to human, except for a few special talents, and yet they are perceived with suspicion. Do you think this perception is a normal part of the human experience? Is suspicion the normal reaction to difference? If so, why?
