Kathleen Turner on helium?

In my mind, I sound like Kathleen Turner. In reality, it turns out I sound like I’m high on helium. It always shocks me when I hear my recorded voice. If I was going to have such a high-pitched voice, couldn’t I have been a singer…?

Last week, Logan Coutts of Eagle 100.9 in Okotoks, Alberta, interviewed me and Laurie Carmichael as part of his series on Foothills writers. Laurie, a fine, fine writer, was representing the Foothills Writers Group. Logan is the charming, funny and welcoming host of the morning show on Eagle 100.9.

JILIMAR

When her husband Owen goes missing, Leah goes looking. To her shock, she finds herself on Jilimar, a world with no technology, flying monsters and a husband who is a stranger. But Leah won’t let anything keep her from getting Owen back home: not her growing fondness for this new world, not Owen’s new-found responsibilities, and not the kidnappers who take her hostage.

Then she learns that the madness overtaking Jilimar may soon descend on her own world.

Nominated for a Derringer Award!

I am thrilled that my short story, “Tethered,” has been short-listed for a Derringer Award. There are 21 finalists in four categories and the winners in each category will be announced on May 1. I’m particularly chuffed to be short-listed because this is a peer chosen award.

“Tethered” was published in the second Sisters in Crime Canada West anthology, Crime Wave: Women of a Certain Age last year. My short story, “Cold Wave,” which appeared in the first anthology, won an Award of Excellence from Crime Writers of Canada.
